Cryolipolysis or Fat freezing

Our Cryosculpting machine uses thermal shock to freeze fat cells, triggering them to self-destruct without damaging the skin. The dead fat cells are then flushed out of the body over the next few weeks, effectively killing them. With their first treatment, clients will lose up to an inch or more.

What is Cryolipolysis?

Our Cryosculpting machine uses thermal shock to freeze fat cells, triggering them to self-destruct without damaging the skin. The dead fat cells are then flushed out of the body over the next few weeks, effectively killing them. With their first treatment, clients will lose up to an inch or more. The average fat loss in treated areas after 3-5 sessions varies depending on the individual’s context. If the person has adjusted their diet, increased their exercise and also is now incorporating this technique, they will see greater results.

Cryolipolysis fat reduction is a procedure that works by provoking fat cell apoptosis (fat cell death). This is accomplished without putting other tissues – particularly muscular tissue – at risk because the fat cells’ intracellular electrolytes crystallise first in the cold, before all others. This technique explicitly targets fat cells.

How does it work?

The cryo handle is applied to the treatment area targeted for fat loss. The handle uses advanced cooling technology to selectively target fat cells and freeze them. This procedure is known as apoptosis (controlled cell death) and is gradually eliminated from the body through the body’s natural waste disposal system.

When fat cells are subjected to being cooled below body temperature, the freezing causes the fat cells to die followed by a local inflammatory response. When fat cells are exposed to extreme cold conditions, the body’s usual response is to restrict circulation to keep the core of the body at the correct temperature. Cryolipolysis makes use of a powerful vacuum which adds to the inflammatory response by drawing blood up to the surface layers of the skin, killing the cells.

Is it painful and is it safe?

During the procedure, clients remain comfortable and can resume work immediately after. Cryolipolysis is completely safe and non-invasive. The technology has been approved by the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) and there is no downtime following the treatment.

How many sessions are needed?

Results are seen after one session, for most areas. Cryo has the advantage of not usually requiring a course of treatment, however some people with higher quantities of stubborn fat may choose to have two to three treatments. Depending on the thickness of the fat and your personal goals, fat freezing may be repeated the same for a second time, but is not always necessary. If you decide that you would like a further reduction in the same area, the preferable waiting time between sessions is approximately two months; this is to give enough time to measure the effectiveness of the initial treatment.
Clinical trial data has shown that for most people, a second treatment within about two months of the first treatment does lead to greater reduction.

How is the fat eliminated from the body?

The fat will gradually leave the body through the lymphatic system and this can take up to 30-90 days for the body to remove the frozen fat cells.

How long does a session take?

A typical treatment takes 30 minutes’ maximum per area.

How much fat is expected to be lost in 1 session?

A 25%- 40% reduction of the body fat is the expected removal in one 30-minute session, per area.

Advantages of Cryolipolysis

As a completely non-invasive procedure, Cryolipolysis offers patients many benefits over other fat reduction procedures. Some of these benefits include:

  • No incisions
  • Minimal pain compared to surgery
  • No anaesthetic needed
  • No downtime
  • Usually takes less than an hour
  • Affordable

Post treatment care

Normal post treatment reactions
Reddening of the skin can take a few hours to a few days to subside.
Temporary bruising to the skin, which can take up to two weeks to subside.
On rare occasion, a patient may experience a temporary dulling sensation to the frozen area, which will subside within a week.

Aftercare advice

Increase your water intake, avoid caffeine and other toxins to support your body’s natural processes. However, please remember Cryolipolysis is not a substitute for taking care of your body, and you should follow the simple aftercare advice.

You may feel more motivated to take care of yourself after the treatment; after all it is an investment. Combining Cryolipolysis with a healthy diet and lifestyle will only further maximise your result.
Please note: On the extremely rare occasion, patient may experience some skin discoloration which goes away overtime by moisturising and massaging the area.
